Vernon AE Pellet Stove (or Pellet Insert) is designed with DC components to achieve maximum run time when running under battery power. This is great because there is no need to waste battery power on an AC-DC inverter. With their Mt. Vernon AE pellet stoves, our customers have kept their homes warm through the 2008 ice storm, the 2011 “Halloween” storm, and through Hurricane Irene.
Quadra-Fire recommends using a 12V deep-cycle gel battery for your Mt. Vernon AE pellet stove. The battery will operate the Mt. Vernon pellet stove until the battery’s output drops to 10V.
The length of time the pellet stove will run will depend on your HEAT OUTPUT level. When the stove is running on battery power, we recommend you set the stove to the lowest manual setting that will provide you with sufficient heat. You can change this setting on your stove from the wall control menu: From Auto/Manual/Off, select “Manual”. On HEAT OUTPUT, select “LOW”.
How does the Mt. Vernon AE Pellet Stove work on battery?
Under AC power, when the room reaches the target temperature, the pellet stove will perform an autoclean. Under BATTERY power, once the room reaches the target temperature, the pellet stove works differently. The Heat Output will automatically drop to a very, very low setting and the screen will display “MAINT BURN” (maintenance burn). When the room again calls for heat, the heat output level will rise back up to the initial setting. After approximately 400 feed motor revolutions (4-8 hours depending on HEAT OUTPUT), the pellet stove will shut down and perform an autoclean. To restart the pellet stove after the autoclean, follow the instructions to start the pellet stove under battery power again.
